Konjoian Joins OSU as
Stakeholder in Residence
Dr. Peter Konjoian has been appointed for the 2001-2002 academic
year as Stakeholder in Residence in the Department of Horticulture and
Crop Science. As such, Peter will interact with an interdisciplinary
team of faculty from both the Columbus and Wooster, Ohio campuses.
The program will allow him to integrate his commercial greenhouse
experience into the established undergraduate teaching programs through
guest lectures at OSU's main campus in Columbus and its Wooster campus
ATI's two year degree program. He will spend a portion of his time
traveling within the state to speak at grower meetings, assisting Dr.
Claudio Pasian in this aspect of OSU's extension program. The
interdisciplinary team includes OSU's floriculture faculty and faculty
in the departments of entomology, plant pathology, and agricultural
engineering. Collaboration on research projects between Peter and the
team is also anticipated.
Goals of the appointment include making contributions to strengthen
the relationship between OSU and Ohio's floriculture industry, establish
OSU's floriculture program as a significant leader at both the state and
national levels, develop collaborative relationships with programs at
leading universities in order to serve the floriculture industry more
efficiently, and establish OSU as a national clearinghouse of
information through the delivery of research based information using the
world wide web and other digital technologies.
Peter's appointment is built around monthly visits to Ohio from his
home in Massachusetts. These trips to Columbus will also allow him to
spend more time in the OFA office as part of his recently expanded role
within the association. As Peter put it "Planting Ohio Buckeye trees in
my back yard hasn't been enough to satisfy my need to be connected. Ohio
has been a huge factor in my career and I've been searching for ways to
give something back to both Ohio State and OFA."
