An ammonium-nitrogen test has been added to the suite of tests provided by the Research Extension Analytical Laboratory (REAL) for the evaluation of soiless medium. This test measures the concentration of nitrogen in the ammonium form that is in the soiless medium sample. The buildup of excessive levels of ammonium-nitrogen can be detrimental to plant growth. The concentration of ammonium-nitrogen shold not exceed 20 ppm.
