PLANT AND PEST DIAGNOSTIC CLINIC

The OSU Plant and Pest Diagnostic Clinic is a resource for growers who need to identify floricultural crop pest and disease problems. The clinic taps expertise of professionals specializing in four disciplines: plant pathology, horticulture, agronomy and entomology. Extension specialists are also resources for identification and recommendations in complex or unique problems. For more information on how to collect and ship samples, contact Nancy Taylor at 614-292-5006.

TREATMENTS AND CONTROLS

Growers often test the effectiveness of treatments (e.g. chemical.) before extensive use. While conducting these tests, growers must always have a control: a group of plants without the treatment. Leaving a few plants untreated (as few as 10- 20 plants may be sufficient) provides very important information and can save lots of money even if the controls are lost due to pests or disease. How do you know if your treatment was effective? By having a good comparison!
