EXTENSION RELOADED
GREATER CINCINNATI AREA GREENHOUSE TOUR
TO BE HELD APRIL 14, 2004

The Cincinnati Flower Growers Association (CFGA) and OSU Extension, Hamilton County, are once again partnering to conduct a spring greenhouse tour. Claudio Pasian, Peter Konjoian, and others from OSU Extension will be participating (Steve Carver and others from the OFA will also be participating). This tour will offer something for everyone and anyone involved in the greenhouse industry. The tour will be followed by a CFGA dinner and meeting, during which Extension personnel will present a power point summary of what was seen and learned during the tour - insect, disease, and cultural problems, cultural and production practices, products grown, equipment and structures, etc. We hope all Extension Agents throughout Ohio with greenhouse clientele will participate and that they will also encourage the participation of those clients. Below is the tour itinerary:

  • 9 - 9:45 a.m. McCabe's Greenhouse & Floral (1066 W. Eads Parkway, Lawrenceburg, IN 47025 (812) 537-4525) - Moderate-sized greenhouse operation with floral shop.
  • 10:15 - noon. Krueger-Maddux Greenhouse, 816 North State Route 101, Sunman, IN 47041 (812) 623-3990 - Very large (85 acres with 300,000 square feet under glass and a 5 acre outdoor growing area) wholesale greenhouse producing annuals, perennials and flowering pot plants. The company also propagates poinsettias and produces pre-finished poinsettias. It is installing a very large and impressive advanced water recycling system that should be of interest to many.
  • Noon Lunch.  Bob Maddux has graciously offered to provide lunch to those on the tour - if you want to eat during the tour please call Steve at Krueger-Maddux at 1 800 589-2295 by Wednesday, April 7.
  • 1:30 - 2:00 p.m. Adopt A Plant, 10856 Oxford Rd., Harrison, OH 45030 (513) - A small wholesale and retail greenhouse operation producing annuals and perennials.
  • 2:30 - 3:45 p.m. Diefenbacher Greenhouses, 114443 Colerain Ave. (Old Colerain), Cincinnati, OH 45252 (513) 741-8455 - A very large wholesale greenhouse range. This business is a virtual demonstration area for the various designs of Raugh Brothers Greenhouses and utilizes much of the latest production technology.
  • 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. Moeller Greenhouse, 2471 Banning Road, Cincinnati, OH 45239 (513) 931-3215 - Moderate-sized greenhouse retail and wholesale range producing annuals and cut flowers - with a garden center.
  • 5:00 - 8 p.m. CFGA dinner and meeting, Clovernook Country Club, 2035 W. Galbreath Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45239 (3 minutes from Moeller's).
Last year CFGA and OSU Extension, Hamilton County, cooperated to conduct similar tours in the spring and fall. Those tours were very successful - the 40 to 50 people involved in each agreed that the tours were very beneficial and worthwhile. Participants are welcome to join or leave the tour at any time.
