A product bulletin from Valent U.S.A. Corporation has been issued that revises the application rates for Pinpoint 15G on container-grown ornamental plants. The present label recommends a rate of ½ to 3/4 teaspoon per pot (3 to 12 inch diameter pots ). The revised rates are 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon per pot (3 to 6 inch diameter pots), 1/4 to ½ teaspoon per pot (6 to 8 inch diameter pots), and ½ to 3/4 teaspoon per pot (8 to 12 inch diameter pots).
This significantly reduces the amount of Pinpoint suggested for the smaller pot diameters, and MAY reduce some of the phytotoxicity problems associated with Pinpoint use. We currently are evaluating these reduced application rates on many greenhouse flowering and foliage plants. The bad news is that injury is still appearing on many of the plants.
I should remind growers that the present ornamentals label for Pinpoint 15G only includes the following crops: azalea, holly, pyracantha, photinia, crape myrtle, and poinsettia, grown as container nursery stock. This is a very short list of plants. Also note that greenhouse use is not specifically mentioned on the label - only in some promotional literature from the company. Greenhouse use is not prohibited, however. Further label revisions are expected in the future.
