New Faculty in Controlled
Environment Entomology

With great pleasure, we welcome our new OSU floriculture team member: Dr. Luis Alberto Caņas. Dr. Caņas joins us as Assistant Professor of Entomology, Applied Insect Ecology in Controlled Environments. Dr. Caņas was born and grew up in El Salvador. He received a BS in Agriculture at the highly respected Pan-American College of Agriculture, Zamorano, Honduras. His MS and PhD in entomology were earned at Purdue University in 1996 and 2000 respectively. Since then, he has been working on a research project to identify and quantify the mortality factors affecting whitefly populations. He was located at the Maricopa Agriculture Center, University of Arizona. We expect Dr Caņas will be joining us on September 1, after wrapping up his current work on whitefly biodemography in Arizona. We also hope he will be able to be present at the OFA Short Course in July .
